My Farpoint 2010 Schedule

Along with many other notable luminaries of science fiction & fantasy, I will be a guest this weekend at Farpoint 2010 in Timonium, Md.

I will be lurking about throughout the weekend, and I will be available as often as possible to sign autographs, chat with fans, and (I hope) sell some books. My official schedule is fairly light, with only two events on Saturday, Feb. 13:

Noon–1pm in Chesapeake 2
“An Hour with David Mack & Glenn Hauman”
Presumably, we will be telling stories from our college days.

3pm–4pm in Dulaney 2
“An Hour with Author David Mack”
This will be a free-form Q&A and autograph session.

If you come to the con looking to chat with me and can’t seem to find me, just hang out in the hotel bar. You know I’ll have to show up there sooner or later…

My Shore Leave Schedule

Well, I got my program schedule for Shore Leave, and it’s a train wreck, just like last year’s.

Friday, July 10

7pm–9pm: The Roast of Keith R.A. DeCandido for Charity
Hunt Ballroom — Don’t miss this rude, crude, hilarious tribute to tie-in fiction’s newest Grand Master.

10pm–Midnight: Meet the Pros
Hunt/Valley Foyer — Stop by for chit-chat and book signings with me and lots of other authors. I’ll be premiering my new original novel The Calling here 11 days before it officially goes on sale!

Saturday, July 11

No program items.  Yup, you read that right; it’s not a typo. I have nothing to do on Saturday.  Anyone want to get lunch?

I was scheduled on a “Farscape Continues” panel with Greg Cox and Keith DeCandido, but I begged off because … well, there’s no reason for me to be on that panel.

Saturday will be all about me hawking The Calling at the book-seller’s booth. I might also go off-site to see a movie.

Sunday, July 12

10am–11am: Star Trek Mirror Universe: Shards and Shadows
Salon E — A discussion with several authors of the recent Mirror Universe short-story anthology.

11am–12pm: Writing to Music – The Muse That Inspires
Hunt Ballroom — The panel’s title pretty much sums it up.

12pm–1pm: Classic Star Trek: What Gene Knew
Hunt Ballroom — This will be me, Dayton Ward, Kevin Dilmore, and editor Margaret Clark extolling the virtues of the original series.

1pm–2pm: Post-Destiny — Now What Will the Federation Do?
Hunt Ballroom — Speculation and vaguely informational teases about upcoming books will abound at this TrekLit panel.

The above is also not a typo; I have been scheduled for four non-stop hours of programming on Sunday morning, a time when everyone knows I’m such a joy to be around on during a convention weekend (or any other weekend).

What I find especially vexing about this is that it’s pretty much the same thing they did to me last year. Really, it’s not that hard to put a few TrekLit items on Saturday and a few on Sunday, so what the hell?

Off to Comic-Con….I hope

Well, sports fans, this it: I depart today for Comic-Con International in San Diego.

At least, I hope I do. I have awoken this morning to rain, lightning, and thunder here in New York City. Exactly the kind of weather I do not want to see on a day when I am scheduled to go hurtling through the air in a pressurized aluminum tube.

Assuming I make it to San Diego today as planned (or close to it), my schedule for the con is fairly simple.

Wednesday: Check in to my hotel, pick up my credentials, and go to the Comic-Con Preview.

Thursday: I have a panel at 4pm: “Star Trek Without a Blueprint,” that includes authors and editors from Pocket Books and IDW Comics, as well as blogger, author, and actor Wil Wheaton. At 5:30pm, I will join authors Dayton Ward, Kevin Dilmore, and Glenn Hauman to sign copies of the SCE story collection Creative Couplings, which features my novella “Small World.”

Friday – Sunday: Troll the con looking for new work for 2009. Maybe visit the zoo.

Monday: Battle the horde of con escapees and try to make it home in one piece.

Those of you who will be at San Diego Comic-Con International, I look forward to seeing you!
