In my obsessive surfing of the intertubes for egoboost, I have so far managed to scare up only a couple of published reviews of Farscape: Scorpius #0, the premiere issue of the new ongoing monthly comic-book series that I am writing with series creator Rockne S. O’Bannon for the good folks at BOOM! Studios. Here are some excerpts from what I’ve found so far:
From Geeks of Doom which gave the issue a rating of 4.5 out of 5—
Fans of Farscape will love this comic. Not only does it continue to develop the cult series, but it gives readers the opportunity to delve into a complex and fascinating villain. For the first half of the script, the comic has absolutely no dialogue. This silence highlights the loneliness and the isolation, but at the same time Scorpius’ stoic strength, his burning desire for vengeance, and his patience. The art is beautiful, with each line carefully drawn on the face of Scorpius. The universe is fully fleshed out and beautifully realized.
Farscape: Scorpius is a great addition to the Farscape universe, and I can’t wait to see where the story of Scorpius goes.
Over at Comixtreme, Andrea Speed’s “Done in One” review gave it 3.5 out of 5 —
This new spin off miniseries actually makes a bold choice, opening with a roughly twelve page wordless sequence (so this is a fast read, as you may imagine) that lets the artists show their stuff, and it’s worth it, as the art is terrific. I love icy cold alien worlds, and this beautifully fits the bill. The story isn’t bad, but right now it’s a little thin. Still, I have no idea where this story is going exactly, and you can color me intrigued. A good start.
Meanwhile, though this isn’t a review, Curt Wagner at ChicagoNow.com wrote about meeting me, fellow Farscape scripter Keith R.A. DeCandido, and artist Will Sliney at the BOOM! booth at C2E2, and he includes the news released by BOOM! at the convention about the upcoming crossover between the main Farscape monthly series, scripted by Keith, and the Farscape: Scorpius spinoff.
Last, but not least, while poking around, I found these solicitation covers for Issue #2 of Farscape: Scorpius on the Westfield Comics website:
That’s it for now, folks!
