Talkin’ Trek on The Captain’s Table

Because I’ve rarely met a podcast invitation I didn’t like, I spent a couple of hours back in January chatting about writing Star Trek and more with co-hosts Michael and Roz from The Captain’s Table on VisionaryTrek.com.

We talked about some of my previous work, including the Star Trek Destiny and Star Trek: Cold Equations trilogies; the recently launched Star Trek: Seekers series; and some of my upcoming projects, both for and beyond Star Trek.

I also mention which author I think would be a good fit to step in to take my place on the Star Trek: Seekers books if the editors decide they want more of that series before my schedule allows me to return.

This, of course, is only Part 1 of a two-part show. When the second part goes live, I’ll let you know.

NYCC 2014 Wrap-Up (#SFWApro)

I’ll keep this short: my New York Comic Con went great!

2014_NYCC_KevinDilmore_DavidMack

Kevin Dilmore and I sold and autographed a lot of books at our signing in the Simon & Schuster booth on Thursday afternoon. When we were done, I wandered the show floor for a while, and then had the pleasure of being introduced to IDW Publishing’s new Star Trek comic book editor, Sarah Gaydos.

On Friday, I had lunch with the ever-charming Mr. Dilmore, after which I spent five hours in the Simon & Schuster booth hand-selling copies of our Star Trek books and personalizing them for fans — including one for actor Jesi Mullins (pictured at left), in whose likeness and honor I named and modeled a character in Section 31: Disavowed. By the time I was done, there were only three copies of Disavowed left on the table.

When I returned to NYCC on Saturday evening, I was pleased to see that Disavowed had sold out, and that only 10 copies of Star Trek: Seekers #1 remained on the table. I then went downstairs to be part of the panel “Star Trek at 50: From ‘The Cage’ to Today.”

Our moderator, Access Hollywood film critic and segment producer Scott Mantz, did a splendid job of keeping the energy level high and the discussion moving, and my fellow panelists — journalist/critic Ed Gross and actors Chase Masterson (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) and Vic Mignogna (Star Trek Continues) — all were erudite and entertaining.

Overall, I’d call this year’s con a success, and I’m already looking forward to next year’s show.

This just in! I have accepted an invitation (for which I shamelessly begged) to join a panel at New York Comic Con:

On the evening of Saturday, October 11, from 7:15PM–8:00PM, in Room 1A24, I’ll join Mark Altman (Free Enterprise), Scott Mantz (Access Hollywood), Edward Gross (“The Fifty-Year Mission”), Vic Mignona (Star Trek Continues), Steve Melching (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), David E. REMINDERI will be signing with fellow Star Trek author Kevin Dilmore at the Simon & Schuster table in Booth #1828 on Thursday, October 9, from 3PM–4PM. Copies of my most recent novel, Star Trek: Seekers #1, and advance copies of my upcoming novel Section 31: Disavowed will be available for purchase at the con.

seekers2_croppedAlso on sale will be Star Trek: Seekers #2. Kevin will be signing those, and he will have pre-signed bookplates from his writing partner and hetero life partner, Dayton Ward, so that you can have both authors’ scribbles in your book.

I’ll also be happy to sign any of my books you already own and want to bring with you to either event.

So, if you’re coming to New York Comic Con, you now have two chances to see me in action and snag autographs. See you at the show, folks!

The First Rule of Star Trek Vanguard

StormingHeaven…is, as so eloquently stated by my brother-from-another-mother Dayton Ward, “You do not talk about Vanguard.”

Why am I bringing this up now? Because in this week’s installment of “Ask Dayton” on the long-running and fucking brilliant podcast The G&T Show, Dayton answered the following listener query:

Dear Dayton,

When you, Kevin, and Dave were writing the Vanguard series, it seemed that it would be the last time we would be seeing many of the characters aboard the Endeavour and the Sagittarius. Many people died throughout Vanguard as a result of it. Now, with Seekers picking up where Vanguard left off, I wonder if there are any characters you could have saved for use in Seekers?

Thanks”

Dayton’s reply, in addition to being entertaining as hell, is also dead-on fucking perfect and accurate to the last detail. So, if you’ve ever wondered whether we’ll be resurrecting any Star Trek Vanguard story elements and characters in the new Star Trek: Seekers series of novels, here is your answer.

You’re welcome.
